Short-term Goals: 1. To continue learning how to use or re-purpose different types of technology. Using technology to boost student creativity, to engage them, to meet them where they are at, has proven successful. 2. To continue seeking out STEM professional development, on-line resources and become more adept at using Google Classroom over the next six months. 3. To implement From Me to We to You next year! As a teacher embracing social justice values, it’s important to me to build and refine the inquiry process with the purpose of empowering my students to own their learning and connect it to their lives. Sharing out their research on various diseases and teaching their friends and families in our Prieto community how to live healthy at this year’s Health Fair was powerful for my students. Given the positive feedback from students, staff and parents, I plan to increase the number of students presenting from 14 to at least 50 participants.
Long-term Goals: 1. To take on a stronger leadership role within my school. Assist with planning future Health Fairs and designing other events to showcase student work within our school and community. 2. To build a list of parents and community speakers to draw upon for student inquiry projects. Several parents in the medical field offered their experience throughout the year, and I would like to continue to draw upon their expertise for student research. 3. To put the science into Dr. Jorge Prieto Math & Science Academy. Our school is a member of the Lesson Study Alliance for which the primary emphasis is the teaching of math. I would like to see a transfer of some of the principles of lesson study applied to teaching science at Prieto.
